DJ Kaskade Bio
Ryan Raddon, known by his stage name Kaskade, rose to prominence alongside producers deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner during the revival of American progressive house in late 2008-early 2009. His style is mostly bassline minimal, although he occasionally likes to add sudden very abrasive leads and breaks. Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Raddon was heavily influenced by New Wave bands like The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, and The Smiths that ignited his love for melody and lyrics and was strongly impacted by the house music scene that developed in Chicago.
He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT (1989-1990) honing his DJ skills in his dorm room. At age 19, Raddon served a two year full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan. Following his mission, in 1992, he moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. During this time he owned and operated a local record store, Mechanized Records. In May 2000, DJ Kaskade moved to San Francisco and began working as an A&R assistant for Om Records. Following Om Records, he began working on his own music, which included multiple singles, EPs, and remixes, as well as albums and released his first single “What I Say” on the label in 2001. In the Moment saw DJ Kaskade’s first top 10 single with “Steppin’ Out” reaching #5 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play chart and #6 on Dance Radio Airplay. The fourth single to be released from the album, “Everything,” reached #1 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play.
His recent 2011 release Fire & Ice debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart, No. 3 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 17 on the Top 200 Albums chart, while the iTunes version debuted at No. 4 on the overall album chart. The Fire disc contains ten original songs geared firmly toward the dancefloor, while on the Ice disc, DJ Kaskade delivered the perfect down-tempo post-club experience by remixing all ten songs. Both discs showcase the musical versatility that has characterized his work ever since he began writing his own songs. He has released seven studio albums, created chart-topping remixes for everyone from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé, and performed between 150 and 200 headlining shows a year for 10 years running. DJ Kaskade was named America’s No. 1 DJ by DJ Times and Pioneer DJ. In June 2012 he hit the road for his biggest headlining tour ever—70-plus North American shows in just over three months.
